Ellen´s Sun Hat

So summer has finally arrived. And it is therefore also time to put on a sun hat.

That’s why I designed this sweet and airy sun hat, which with its wide shade, can nicely protect a baby´s head, neck and face from the sun’s rays, without being too heavy or warm for the baby.

This sun hat matches Ellen’s baby dress, which I designed last summer, and which has since been a big hit.

Materials

• 1 Skein of Drops Safran
• 3 mm Crochet Hook
• Darning needle
• Scissors

Gauge

• 25 stitches and 13 rounds = 10 x 10 cm.

Abbreviations

• MC-Magic Circle
• ST – Stitch
• CH – Chains
• SL ST- Slip Stitch
• SC- Single Crochet
• DC- Double Crochet
• CR DC – Crossed Double Crochet (Skip 1 ST. DC in the next ST. DC in the ST which you skipped)

• Measurements: Hat circumference: 41 cm.
• Skill level: Easy/Medium

Instructions

Round 1. Make a MC. CH 2 (These do not count as a stitch, this applies throughout the whole pattern). 12 DC in MC. (12 DC) SL ST into first ST of the round CH 2.

Round 2. 2 DC in every ST around (24 DC) SL ST into first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 3. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next ST.* Repeat from *-* around (36 DC) SL ST into first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 4. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next 2 ST.* Repeat from *-* around (48 DC) SL ST into first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 5. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next 3 ST.* Repeat from *-* around (60 DC) SL ST into first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 6. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next 4 ST.* Repeat from *-* around (72 DC) SL ST into first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 7. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next 5 ST.* Repeat from *-* around (84 DC) SL ST into first ST. of round. CH 2.

Round 8-17. CR DC in every ST around. (84 CR DC) SL ST into first ST. of the round. CH 2.

You will now create the Ruffled Brim of the hat

Round 18. 2 DC in every ST around. (168 DC) SL ST in first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 19. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next ST*. Repeat from *-* around. (252 DC) SL ST in first ST of round. CH 2.

Round 20. *2 DC in first ST. DC in next 2 ST*. Repeat from *-* around. (336 DC) SL ST in first ST of round. CH 2.

Cut and fasten off your yarn and weave in all the yarn ends.
