Begin by chaining a foundation chain of any multiple of 3 stitches plus 1. For example, if you want to make a small sample, you can chain 31.
Row 1: Double crochet (dc) in the 4th chain from the hook. *skip 2 chains, and then make 3 double crochet in the next chain.* Repeat from *-*across the entire row, ending with 2 double crochet in the last chain.
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), turn your work. make 3 double crochet into the first space of the previous row. Then make 3 double crochet into the next space of the previous row. Continue this pattern across the entire row, ending with a double crochet in the top of the turning chain from the previous row.
