Materials
- A small amount 20g-30g of yarn in 4 different colors. I am using Drops Merino Extra Fine for this project.
- 4.5 mm. Crochet Hook
- Darning Needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations
- CH – Chain
- ST Stitch
- SL ST – Slip Stitch
- DC – Double Crochet
Instructions
Make a Slipknot and CH 4. SL ST into the first CH to create a small Circle.
Round 1. CH 3. (CH 3 will count as a DC). Make 2 DC into the circle. CH 2. (CH 2. will create the first corner in the square). Make 3 DC. and CH 2. 3 more times, so you will have a total of 4 corners and 4 sides in your square. SL ST into the first ST. Fasten off the yarn.
Round 2. Attach a new color yarn to any of the CH spaces. CH 4. Make 2 DC into the same CH-space. CH 1. *Make 3 DC. CH 2. 3 DC into the next CH-space. CH 1. * Repeat from *-* untill you have a 4 corners and 4 sides in your sqaure. SL ST into the first ST. Fasten off the yarn.
Round 3. Attach a new color yarn to any of the CH-spaces in the side of the square. CH 3. Make 2 DC into the same CH-space. CH 1. *3 DC. CH 2. 3 DC. into the next CH-space. CH 1. 3 DC into the next CH-space. CH 1*. Repeat from *-* all the way around, untill you have 4 corners and 4 sides in your square. SL ST into the first ST. Fasten off the yarn.
Round 4. Attach a new color yarn to the first of the CH-spaces in the side of the square. CH 3. Make 2 DC into the same CH-space. CH 1. Make 3 DC into the next CH-space. *3 DC. CH 2. 3 DC. into the next CH-space. CH 1. 3 DC into the next 2 CH-spaces. CH 1*. Repeat from *-* all the way around, untill you have 4 corners and 4 sides in your square. SL ST into the first ST. Fasten off the yarn.
You can from here make your granny square as big as you like. Just note that You will have 2 new groups of 3 DC in each side of the sqaure for each round.
