Foundation
Ch 5, sl st into the first ch to form a ring.Round 1. (Center circle)
Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1). (Dc in ring, ch 1) repeat 11 more times. (12 dc + 12 ch-1 spaces). Sl st into the first ch-1 space.
Round 2. (Flower Petals)
Ch 3 (counts as part of a 3-tc together). Tc 2 together in the same ch-1 sp.
(Ch 3, 3-tc together in the next ch-1 sp) repeat around. (12 petals with ch-3 spaces in between). Sl st to the top of the first cluster.
Round 3. (Forming a Square)
Ch 4 (counts as tc), 2 more tc in the same ch-3 sp. Ch 1. 3 dc and ch 1 in next 2 spaces (side of square). 3 tc, ch 3, 3 tc in next space (corner). Repeat around. Complete the last corner with 3 tc, ch 2, sl st into the first st. (You will have 16 clusters total).
Round 4.
Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc in back loop only of every st across the side.
In each corner space: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc. Continue dc in back loops only for the next 15 sts. Repeat around. Sl st to join. (You will have 76 dc + 8 ch total)
Round 5.
Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1). Skip next st, dc, ch 1 across the side.
In the corner space: 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc. Ch 1. Skip next st, dc in next st across the side (9 dc + 10 ch-1 spaces per side). Repeat around. Sl st to the top of ch 3. (You will have 44 dc and 44 ch-spaces total)
Round 6.
Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc alternately in every st and ch-1 sp across the side.
In the corner space: 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc. Continue dc in next st and ch-1 space (21 sts per side). Repeat around. Sl st to the top of ch 3. (You will have 100 dc + 8 ch total)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Block the square if needed to shape it neatly.
