Instructions
Round 1. Center Circle (Color A)
- Start with a magic ring (or ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring).
- Ch 3 (counts as first dc).
- Work 11 dc into the ring. (12 dc total, including starting ch-3).
- Sl st to the top of the starting ch-3 to join.
- Fasten off Color A and switch to Color B (Petals).
Round 2. Petals (Color B)
- Ch 3 (counts as part of first petal).
- In the same stitch, work 2 tc together.
- Ch 2.
- In the next st, work 3 tc together, ch 2.
- Repeat step 4 in each st around. (12 petals total).
- Sl st into the top of the first petal to join.
- Fasten off Color B and switch to Color C (Background).
Round 3. Forming the Square (Color C – Background)
- Join Color C in any ch-2 space.
- Ch 3 (counts as first dc).
- In the same ch-2 space, work 2 dc.
- In the next ch-2 space, work 3 dc.
- In the next ch-2 space, work (3 tc, ch 2, 3 tc) to make the first corner.
- In the next 2 ch-2 spaces, work 3 dc in each.
- Repeat step 5-6 around the square to form the four sides and four corners.
- Sl st to the top of the starting ch-3 to join. (You will have 12 st in each side of the square + 4 corners of 2 ch = 56 st total)
Round 4. Solid Border (Color C – Background)
- Ch 2 or 3 (counts as first dc).
- Work 1 dc in each stitch across the first side, untill you reach the corner space.
- In the corner space, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).
- Repeat working 1 dc in each stitch of the sides, and (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner around.
- Sl st to the top of the starting ch-2 to join. (You will have 16 st in each side of the square + 4 corners of 2 ch = 72 st total)
Feel free to continue making you your square as big as you like, using the instructions above. You will have 16 new st for each following rounds.
Finishing Touches
- Fasten off and weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
