This lovely and soft little cardigan is crocheted in 100% soft baby merino, and it is designed with a really good fit for a chubby little baby.
The cardigan is worked in one piece from the top down, which leaves very little assembly work for you. Only the sleeves are sewn together in the end.
This is among other reasons is why absolutely love to make this cardigan. And I have already made a dozen of these for my two little nieces.

Row 14. HDC in first 22 ST. CH 3. Skip 33 ST (This will create the armhole). HDC in next 42 ST. CH 3. Skip 33 ST. HDC in last 22 ST. (86 HDC + 6 CH = 92 ST) CH 1 and Turn.
Row 15-36. You will now work on the body section of your cardigan. You will have 22 rows from the armhole to the hem of your cardigan. HDC in every ST across. (92 HDC) CH 1 and turn.
Front and neck edging + buttonholes
Attach your yarn at the opening of your cardigan at the bottom. SC from the from the bottom of the edge, on front side up to the neckline. When you reach the neckline CH 3 and turn your work. Skip 2 ST. Your CH 3 counts as the first buttonhole in your cardigan. * SC in next 6 ST. CH 2. Skip 2 ST. * Repeat from *-* until you have 6 buttonholes in your cardigan. Fasten off your yarn.
Attach your yarn to the opposite side of the opening in your cardigan and make 2 rows of SC at the edge of the opening, begin from the front side.
You will now have to make a row of SC all around the edge of your cardigan to give it a very nice finished touch. The edge is worked from the front, and goes all around the neckline and the hemline. When you reach the CH 2 where you have your buttonholes, you need to work 2 SC directly into the buttonholes.
Place your buttons precisely across from the buttonholes on the opposite side. Sew your buttons into your cardigan.
Sleeves
Attach your yarn into the middle chain in the armhole.
Row 1-2. HDC across row.
Row 3. Make a HDC DEC. HDC across, till you have 2 ST left of the row. Make a HDC DEC.
Row 4-23. Repeat Row 1, 2 and 3.
Fasten of and cut your yarn. Leave a long tail for sewing under arm approx. 40 cm.
Sew the edges of the sleeve together on the wrong side the cardigan, using the mattress stitch.
Cut your yarn, fasten off and sew in the ends.

A lovely pattern, but what stitch do I use for the test gauge? Thank you
Thank You 🙂 I use Half Double Crochet (HDC)
Awesome!
Thank You 🙂
Hi there,
In the pattern notes, there are 3 different numbers after each measurement. What do these mean?
There are 6 different numbers. These are for every size 🙂
Does the pattern you purchase have more detail then the feee pattern as far as stitch count for sleeve rows and front side with the button holes?
no it is the same pattern, only with more sizes. 🙂
I think the number is off on row 3
No the number is correct in every row. You need to read and follow the pattern correctly 🙂
Wonderful pattern and so nice video to watch. Please how many SC shall be at the final on one side after edging? I thought 1 SC to each row, but seams to less when counting 6 buttonholes. Thanks.
1 sc per row is not enough. I make approx 3 sc for each 2 rows.
Thank you so much for sharing!
You are very welcome 🙂

How many balls of wool do I need. It doesn’t say.
Thanks Catherine
Well it says to 100 grams, so it depends on how much yarn there is in each ball. I used 2 balls of 50 grams, of Drops baby merino.
